The post challenged my comprehension. All I can think after reading it was the expression, “to come full circle”.

Ayn Randy’s book Atlas Shrugged was recommended to me by a co-worker years ago. I started reading it but never finished it. Wikipedia’s entry about the book was helpful especially the part about the working title for the book, which was The Strike. My husband didn’t finish the book either but he has said many times if the productive people stopped being productive (went on strike) everything would fall apart fast.

Did you get as far as Galt's Gulch? The character with whom I most closely identified was Hugh Akston. My least favorite character was Cuffy Meggs.

Hmmm…Florida. We could definitely use some rain here, it’s awfully dry, but thankful no hurricane on tap here.

After asking yesterday (Thursday the 22nd) about what & where for TD 9 [no name yet assigned]) and being told hurricane and Florida, early this morning —as I checked on Hurricane Fiona, which will slam New Scotland (in Canada, also known as Nova Scotia) starting this evening— I saw that the USA's National Hurricane Center has now forecast trop depression nine to become a Category 3 hurricane before striking Florida between Ft. Myers and Tampa. 😕

This leads to the next natural questions for The Committee:

1. How bad will damage and effects be in Nova Scotia from Hurricane Fiona?

2. What will be the effects in Florida from TD 9 (no name yet) ?

They say:

1. Fiona will cause most damage from wind versus rainfall. Shoreline flooding from storm surge and waves will be minimal, even though the ocean is already roaring. There will be widespread and significant damage, especially in places where buildings will be exposed to sustained winds of 160 kph for more than one hour, gusts exceeding this by 5-10% at certain moments.

2. Florida will suffer from storm surge & waves along the coastline, heavy damage in the immediate area of the storm center but heavy sustained rainfall & flooding across central Florida, even where wind intensity is more moderate. Prepare for electricity and communication outages, and contaminated water.

Oh fun!

I just got down to the Florida eastern pan-handle area for vacation.

This should be interesting.

The media first pumped the pandemic. Then they pumped the st. George Floyd. Now they pump a small regional conflict into WW3…..

The EU leadership is getting desperate...

"EU Commission President Threatens Italy On Eve Of Election, Says Brussels Has 'Tools' If Wrong Parties Win

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is being accused of election interference after threatening to use “tools” if the wrong election result is achieved in Italy’s national elections, set to take place this Sunday, Sept. 25.

Giorgia Meloni’s electric performances at political rallies have made her a virtual shoo-in to become Italy’s first female prime minister in Sunday’s ballot. She’ll also be the first to campaign with the flame symbol, evoking the former fascist leader, Benito Mussolini.

The prospect of a charismatic nationalist taking power with almost no government experience has investors and officials on edge. Italy, of course, is wrestling with the fallout from the most serious conflict in Europe since WWII.
But the country has been adrift for years, struggling to hit on a formula which can unlock its potential while staying true to its identity.
Von der Leyen added that those same tools are already being used against Hungary and Poland.

“We will see the result of the vote in Italy,” said von der Leyen.

“If things go in a difficult direction — and I’ve spoken about Hungary and Poland — we have the tools.”

Von der Leyen made the comment after a journalist at Princeton University in the United States said that there were candidates in the Italian elections “close to Putin” and asked her how the EU would react if they were elected."

She's walking 3 ft off the ground. She figures she can get away with that? Because it's Europe or Italy?

This bit$ch is part of Washington’s strive for global domination and exceptionalism...

Lavrov: “We have repeatedly proposed over the years to agree on the rules for coexistence in Europe based on the principle of equal and indivisible security, approved at the highest level of OSCE documents.
We made our last proposal to make this principle legally binding in December 2021, to which we received an arrogant refusal,” Lavrov stated.
Ukraine has become a mere tool for Washington to maintain its global dominance and target Russia, the top diplomat believes.
“It is evident to any unbiased observer: For the Anglo-Saxons, who have completely subjugated Europe, Ukraine is simply expendable material in the fight against Russia.
NATO declared our country a direct threat on the path to total US dominance, and named China as a long-term strategic challenge,” Lavrov told.....

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Washington’s strive for global domination and exceptionalism has reached an unprecedented height, resulting in multiple aggressive wars and claiming lives of “many hundreds of thousands” of people worldwide, Lavrov stated.

“Having proclaimed victory in the Cold War, Washington elevated itself almost to the rank of the messenger of God on earth, with no obligations, but only ‘sacred’ rights to act with impunity, as it pleases and anywhere,” Lavrov said.

Any nation can fall victim to Washington’s ambitions should it somehow anger the “self-styled masters of the world,” Lavrov warned. That fate has befallen the people of Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya and other countries, he added.

The EU, while being “subjugated” by the US, is showing the same symptoms of exceptionalism and arrogance, Lavrov believes.

The minister recalled fresh remarks by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who threatened Italy with consequences should right-wing candidates sweep to power, as indicated by polls, in Sunday’s election.

“This is arrogance, sense of impunity, exceptionalism. Only they have the right to make judgments. What Mrs. von der Leyen said about the Italian elections was astounding,” Lavrov told reporters, adding that he did not recall such threats made by an EU leader before.

“The European Union, in principle, is becoming an authoritarian, rigid, dictatorial entity,” the top diplomat said.

Said by one (Lavrov) that comes from a rigid, autoritarian, dictatorial government... Is it a criticism or an acknowledgment?

;D

I didn't know Trump had changed his name to Xi but the coup already happened in November of 2020.

No such luck, I am afraid. It seems Putin and Xi are safe from prosecution for now, unlike Mr Trump.
The esteemed GAG was asked about the fate of Xi before, and the response was: it was undecided (about 1.5 years ago). I believe the esteemed GAG also forecast continuation of Putin in power for another term (5 years) after the current one.
Looks like: long live the autocrats! (Only because we choose to let them reign.)

"Mainstream media in America and EU, speculation that Putin is sick and on the verge of death or losing power while ignoring the

fragility and mental lapses of Biden leads me to discount much of what they are saying.
The experience of living for over six months with my ninety-three-year-old mother-in-law that suffers from dementia has given me some insight into the loss of cognitive functioning.

This extends to how they think, remember, and reason. It also includes some of the many tricks people use to mask or hide the embarrassment they feel when they lose their ability to remember.

One of the most pronounced methods is to ask general questions such as, how's the family, or did you have any trouble getting here.
These can be used when you don't even know who you are talking to or where they came from. The fact is that due to changes in the brain, people living with dementia may sometimes experience hallucinations, delusions and/or paranoia.

According to Heathman, MD, a Houston psychiatrist, “paranoia, or having false beliefs, is a common trait of later stage dementia."
