I'm glad you brought up the spiritual advice that I've heard many times . . . that what you pay attention to expands and what you ignore diminishes.

I have never understood quite how this is supposed to work.

If there is a destructive movement for instance, that poses a real threat, are we really supposed to close our eyes? Or is there some perfect amount of attention we should give it that is the perfect balance?

A lot of nasty things flourish in the dark, even if most people aren't paying attention. Look at Jeffrey Epstein. For years and years and years, the general public had no idea what he was doing. The inattention didn't diminish it. The inattention made it easier for him to do horrible things, just like the nighttime makes it easier for a thief to creep around undetected.

Governments spy on other countries to detect what is meant to be secret in an effort not to be caught off guard, which would be a weak position. Whole underground movements are able to plot and achieve their goals if no one is paying attention.

So I don't know what to do with that spiritual advice.

"...some perfect amount of attention ... that is the perfect balance?"
Perfection isn't possible; moreover, what's ideal today can become really bad next week.

While it's true that giving attention brings about an increase of what receives it, observer attention is not a mandatory catalyst or fuel for anything,

Lots of people were participating actively in the activities, but neither press nor public was invited to know.

If the participants had stopped giving their attention, indeed it would have faded away. That attention then activity was put into the activity, brought about more of it.

If the activity is concealed, how does one join or quit?

@Lorri,
"what you pay attention to expands and what you ignore diminishes",
in YOUR life. Is it useful to know about negative things and does it bring positivity into one's life to know about them if one can't do anything about them?

@TV

Sometimes it's obvious one can't do anything, but other times it's unclear.

Without getting into specifics that don't matter for the purpose of this discussion, I recently read an article about a destructive political movement. The article was about the few people opposing the movement being aware of what was going on many years ago, but not being able to get anyone to take it seriously.

In the end, the destructive movement was successful in implementing their goals because they had been working patiently in the background getting their ducks in a row in small victories. Once they successfully achieved their goal, the general public was in a state of shock, asking how it happened.

It happened because too few people were paying attention, or if they were paying attention, they were not taking it seriously.

@Lorri: Let's see, why were so few potential observers giving attention? They were distracted. It wasn't as easy to do when manipulation relied upon printed newspapers and magazines, books, television and radio.

Nowdays, especially with folks born between 30-35 and 20 years ago, a flood of utter bullshit is rained down upon them in a deluge of delusion. Most of them are certain of their voluntary decisions to select then apply their attention well. Very few do; most of them are happy to relinquish their rights and even attack others for exercising rights. Seeking out disagreement, attempting to understand it and observing debate are shunned like fresh dog poop. What high school anywhere teaches debate or has clubs for it?

This is going to change, however so....for the time being, if you cannot control something you dislike, avoid it physically and emotionally.

When I woke up this morning a line from a song kept playing in my mind. "You'll never walk alone...". But that's all I could remember of the song. So I looked it up. I knew it was my guardian angels sending a message

Hey, did any of you guys see this post from Poof?
https://goldenageofgaia.com/2023/05/02/poof-said-for-may-1-2023/
I take what this Poof says with a grain of salt most of the time but this seems to be in the ballpark of what is discussed here.
so I thought I'd pass it along.
Cheers.
