Sent by a reader, and The Committee adds some explanation.
Says The Committee: "The heat and burns were caused by discharge from nuclear powered electricity generation systems", which The Committee describes in The Alien Handbook. "This power is used to operate gravity neutralization devices and magnetic propulsion & maneuvering."
I am most surprised this unoccupied vessel allowed a human to approach it, given the risk and danger to a human. "The lack of occupants is the reason", says The Committee; "it took just a little longer to detect and the ship was withdrawn as soon as the human was injured."
The Committee says: "The reason they appeared there that day, was to see for themselves what Mr. Michalak was looking for. Many alien ET visitors observe many things humans do, and are curious, just as you often are, about what can be found. They were observing him and the minerals he was prospecting."
The regret expressed by Mr. Michalak years later, after the attention he got made him decide he should have kept quiet, is observed regularly by visitors to our planet. This is a significant, even material, reason "disclosure" and "revelation" by them directly, away from governments, has so far been largely avoided.
Concludes The Committee, "Disappointed as they often are to discover how we humans react, alien ET visitors are still highly respectful of you and aware of the problems for certain humans their appearance can provoke."
