Chapter 4 - Technology
Tools are technology, an extension of your soul, just as is a human body.
Understanding the nature of the human spirit, the true substance of your existence, displays within such comprehension, all the physical things humans use for action, for movement and for physical change within the human environment. The boxer's glove becomes part of his arm and hand; the hammer the same for a carpenter.
Human tools have been re-named technology because of miniaturization, increased complexity and detail, developed to perform ever more specific functions.
No technology will ever approximate, much less replicate your true existence. Scientific inquiry which uncovers information leading to development of a technological advancement, be it chemical, electrical or otherwise, is never more than a fancy screwdriver.
Human use of electrical technology to increase volume and speed of spoken and especially written communication and imagery, has opened the door to predictable effects humans generally did not anticipate. Mankind has hit its finger with its hammer, as it builds its house.
Common is it to hear, see and read of many people, often younger and in the majority in the first third of their physical lives, who suffer ill effects from use of portable computation devices.
Celebrated as a convenience when first available, the capability to leave a recorded, spoken message when no direct human was reached during placement of a telephone call, has been set aside as annoying. Far more preferred is the typed message among the first third of humanity, which has come to consider these devices a required component of daily life. This necessity has also involved the elimination of handwriting, as large segments of younger adults and schoolchildren can no longer read longhand, much less write it. Schools have begun to replace time keeping devices, removing the versions which mimic the sundial, replacing them with numerical devices. Analogue out, digital in.
The loss of many abilities has homogenized thinking and behavior, as can be seen now in many forms of social expression. Music, fashion, diet and transportation have been simplified. Nuances, permutations, characteristics, in some cases deemed an attribute but others a flaw, have become smoothed over by technology.
Younger people are increasingly focused on style and personal appeal in many things, fast forwarding to the ideal and preferred result, setting aside much is any consideration of details in between. Beautiful person, beautiful hook-up, beautiful permanent relationship which shall always fit the preferences of the observing idealist. Encountering resistance, difficulty or troubles now almost reflexively incurs an urge to trade in the relationship, to upgrade to a better model. Be it casual friend or intimate partner, the other half is expected and often demanded to meet preferences and adjust as required. This has become the default value, and is the expected baseline condition. Your tablet is just supposed to do what is expected; look at that price.
The use of technology, the tools of information and communication, have led to this place.
No tool is good, no tool is bad. Outcomes and results from use are what matter. Performance and satisfaction can be evaluated, judged and considered. Development of tools will always be a part of mankind; however both forecasting and post deployment evaluation of effects will become a key part of implementation. A new, and in several currently uncommon cases renewed, willingness to include by design into processes, devices and procedures will come methods to examine effects during and after distribution plus use. This will seem to be a novel human approach, yet we will both show mankind how this perspective is well developed and accepted among your peers in your star cluster region, and not as new as it will initially seem.
Pursue development of new tools always. Pursue understanding of what you do with these tools, measure investments, costs, resources used versus results, outcomes and effects. Such completely subjective assessments are the most important subject; study it.
Technology, the tools of rapid communications, have been used to lead to this place.
